Nelson Academy given ‘good’ Ofsted report
Staff, governors and pupils are delighted to announce that Nelson Academy has been graded “Good” by Ofsted in all areas following a recent inspection.
Ofsted visited the academy from 30 November to 1 December 2016, in what was its first inspection since the school took on academy status three years ago.
Interim Principal Sarah Wilson is thrilled with the outcome and says it is something that staff, students and parents alike should be extremely proud of.
She said: “Nelson Academy has come a long way since joining Eastern Multi-Academy Trust in 2014. Our staff have done a fantastic job at turning things around and improving the learning environment for our students over the last few years. Nelson Academy is a wonderful place to work and learn and there is a real sense of community cohesion amongst the teaching body, parents and the wider community.
“We will now look to continue to improve leadership and management within the academy, and ensure that any new staff members are given appropriate training to ensure that they are as good as the more experienced staff members. There has been a significant rise in pupils’ achievements and staff at Nelson Academy are prepared to do their utmost to ensure this progression remains, as we continue on our journey to becoming an outstanding academy.”
The academy joined Eastern Multi-Academy Trust in January 2014, after being placed in Special Measures in 2012, whilst operating as Clackclose Primary School. It was the first primary school to join Eastern Multi-Academy Trust, closely followed by Eastgate Academy later that year and Southery Academy in 2016. The Trust also recently announced that Upwell Community Primary, Emneth Primary School and North Wootton Community School will officially become primary academies under Eastern Multi-Academy Trust, later this year.
Inspectors have reported that “leaders and governors have successfully embedded a culture of aspiration and achievement” at the academy and that “the resource base run by the school serves the requirements of pupils effectively. Pupils receive support that is tailored to their specific needs, well monitored and ensures that these pupils make good progress”.
The inspectors fed back to the academy that “pupils are enthusiastic and keen to learn. They value their education, attend well, behave and respect one another”.
