John Harrison

John Harrison trained in the late 1960s as a Physical Education (PEd) teacher and taught in Sheffield. On entering the RAF in 1970, he spent a number of years as a PEd Officer responsible for sport, fitness training and survival techniques. He spent 2 years commanding the RAF’s Outdoor Activity Centre in Scotland and has led numerous major expeditions to the European Alps, Africa and the Himalayas. In the mid 1980s he was seconded to review physical education training in the RAF, culminating in a complete overhaul of the system.  He conceived and introduced the RAF fitness and health strategy. His latter career was spent dealing with policy issues interspersed with tours on stations where he was responsible for support functions.

He obtained a 1st class honours degree from the Open University in systems, management and health education and sees learning as a life long experience. He is passionate that the youth of today are given the very best educational opportunities regardless of their background and believes that pupils’ aspirations should be boundless. To aspire for better can be the driving force of motivation.
